Travel Tips & Information for Planning Your Vacation

Once your vacation is planned, it’s time to get down to the packing deals and preparing for the experience at the airport. Travel Express has put together a list of travel tips and other travel information to make this process easier for you. If you have any other travel tips you’d like to share, please email them to us, or list them on our Facebook page.

Travel Tips for the Airport

Carry-On Items

The best travel tip we can provide is to travel as clutter-free as possible. Remember that all items such as deodorants, shampoos & conditioners, hairspray, lotions and similar items must be stored in a 3 oz container and sealed is a zip-top bag. Items that are larger than 3 oz or not stored properly can be confiscated or thrown away.

Checking In

Make sure to have your boarding pass and government issued identification ready at all times. You can check-in at the ticket counter, either inside or out, a kiosk inside the airport or online. Children are not required to show identification.

Shoes

Make sure to wear comfortable shoes that can be easily removed. If you have a prosthetic or other type of medical condition, make sure to let a TSA agent know so can go through a visual inspection.

Airport Screening

All passengers are required to go through airport screening as required by the Transportation Security Administration. Certain types of jewelry and clothing containing metal may set off the detectors. Below is a list of items that you should be prepared to remove or be subject to further screening:

  • Necklaces, bracelets, rings, watches, earrings, body piercings and more.
  • Belt buckles, buttons, snaps
  • Keys, loose change, mobile devices
  • Coats, jackets and other types of outerwear

Travel Tips for Children

All bags and children’s items such as car seats, strollers, booster seats and more are required to be screened. If your baby’s equipment doesn’t fit through the screener, it will be inspected visually. Baby formula, breast milk, juices and other liquids can be contained in a bottle larger than 3.4 oz. You may be asked to open the container for inspection. However, soaps, shampoos, and other items used to care for your children will still need to be in a container 3 oz. or smaller. Babies can be held when walking through the screener. You are not allowed to pass your children to another person, including the TSA agent when you walk though. You will not be separated from your child at anytime.
